Surrey Business headshots
Recently I had the pleasure of working with local entrepreneurs Wendy & Julia, to create some new business portraits for their websites and social media.
I set up a plain background and my studio lights in Wendy’s home. I prefer to work on location so that the client doesn’t have to travel, and also to allow for changes of clothing if needed. Unless I’m photographing large groups I mostly use battery-powered flashes which are quick to set up and avoid safety issues with trailing cables.
I generally use a white or grey background as it’s a nice neutral tone and works with any page or website background colour. Also it’s easy for a graphic designer to work with if they need to make a “cutout” headshot.
In most cases this kind of shoot doesn’t take more than an hour or so, once we’ve agreed on the lighting setup that suits the client best. If you have several colleagues who need portraits it also means we can get everyone’s headshots looking consistent if we do them all on one day.
Extra natural light pictures
Towards the end of the session, I decided to do a few extra shots using just the natural light coming in through the sliding doors in the dining area, just for a bit of variety. Wendy also has an amazing piece of artwork on the wall so we used that as a background for a couple of shots, making a more “environmental” style of portrait, with a bot more contrast.
Here are a few of my favourite photos from the shoot.
